"For Me To Live is Christ, And To Die is Gain." Philippians 1:21
From The Pastor's Pen, June 29, 2008
Dear People of God,
I hope and pray that all is well with you and your loved ones as our universal Church embarks on this special jubilee year dedicated to St. Paul!
In our Bishop's pastoral letter (which can be found by clicking on the menu to the left), we are urged to study, pray and celebrate during this special year of grace. He offers the following six themes to deepen our faith:
1) Paul's Conversion Experience on the Road to Damascus and our Personal Conversion
2) Living and Praying Christ
3) Praying, Studying and Living the Inspired Word of God
4) Lifting High the Cross of Christ
5) Rekindling a Love for the Eucharist and the Church
6) Our Universal Call to Holiness and Our Universal Call to Mission
During the past five months, our Pastoral Staff has been working on ways for our parish to experience this journey of faith. Likewise, our Pastoral Council has been working to implement the vision and plan of our Church. Throughout the coming year, there will be numerous opportunities for us to grow in the six themes of the Pauline Year.
The Bishop stated that he is convinced that one of the goals of the Pope in proclaiming the Jubilee Year is to have every Catholic hold up a mirror to his/her life and ask, "Am I as determined and energetic about spreading the Catholic faith as St. Paul was?" If the answer is "yes," then we are guaranteed the same results.
May we be apostles to the Gentiles of our world as St. Paul was the "Apostle to the Gentiles" of his time!
Father Jim
